Three wins in a row in the group phase of the Champions League: SC Magdeburg is continuously working its way up the table and wants to follow up with their fourth defeat on Wednesday (October 25th). Duel of the Table neighbors

After two defeats at the start, SC Magdeburg has found its rhythm in the group phase of the Champions League and is over after its successes RK Celje, Wisla Plock and the FC Porto have now climbed to fourth place in the table with 6:4 points. Magdeburg’s opponent Montpellier is one place behind with 4:6 points.

Montpellier’s Couch Canayer in his 30th year on the line

Most recently, the French lost away at Svendborg Gudme 27:32, which didn’t fit coach Patrice Canayer’s concept at all, because like the SCM, Montpellier also has direct qualification for the next round in sight. The 62-year-old Canayer has a record-breaking employment with the French; he has been in charge of the handball club on the Mediterranean coast since 1994.

Patrice Canayer has been Montpellier coach since 1994.

The French inherit SC Magdeburg in the premier class in 2003

Canayer was also responsible for the top club’s greatest triumphs. In 2003, the team won the Champions League for the first time, inheriting SC Magdeburg, who had won the trophy a year earlier. In 2018, the French repeated their great success in the premier class. In total, Montpellier won 14 national championship titles.

Before the season there was quite a bit of bloodletting in the Blue and White squad. “Only” four new actors were added. Including the Swede Sebastian Karlsson, who has scored the most goals for Montpellier in the Champions League so far with 23 goals.
