As of: February 4, 2024 5:53 p.m

The handball women of SG BBM Bietigheim suffered a setback in the Champions League in the fight for a good starting position for the playoffs.

The German champion and cup winner lost 27:31 (15:13) against the Hungarian club VSC Debrecen in Ludwigsburg.

The Bundesliga club is still in fifth place in Group A, and coach Jakob Vestergaard’s team has finally lost their previously minimal chance of making it directly to the quarter-finals. Only the two best teams in the two preliminary round groups are automatically qualified for the round of the last eight. The clubs in third to sixth place play in the playoffs for the remaining four places.

Bietigheim is having a hard time against a strong defense

The Bietigheimers had a hard time against Debrecen’s strong defense throughout the entire 60 minutes. After controlling the game in the first half, they fell behind for the first time after the break at 17:18 and were unable to turn the game around. The best thrower was Bietigheim’s Antje Döll with nine hits.
