On Saturday evening, HSG Wetzlar had to pay the lessons against Champions League winners SC Magdeburg. In the end it was a clear defeat for the Wetzlar team, who were threatened with relegation.
HSG Wetzlar suffered a heavy defeat in Magdeburg. In the end it was 20:33 for the Champions League winner from HSG’s perspective. At the break the Wetzlar team were already 10:22 behind.
Positive from the Hessians’ point of view: Nafea Ahmed scored eight goals and therefore almost half of all Wetzlar goals. Otherwise, the difference on the board was clear from the start: after just under nine minutes, the HSG were already minus five. Immediately before the break, Wetzlar had to accept a 1:6 run that pretty much decided the game.
HSG still deep in the relegation battle
Even after the break, the HSG suffered four goals in a row without any sense of success. “We didn’t defend well in the first half and missed too many clear chances,” said coach Momir Ilic after the game.
The team has to get the points in the relegation battle against other teams on equal terms anyway. Wetzlar is still in 16th place and dangerously close to the two relegation places. The home game against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen awaits on November 27th.
