Handball Bundesliga: SC DHfK Leipzig goes down in Flensburg

As of: October 11, 2023 9:02 p.m

The handball players from SC DHfK Leipzig suffered a crushing 24:34 defeat at SG Flensburg-Handewitt on Wednesday evening. The Saxons were only able to keep up until the break. The Green-Whites therefore remain winless against the North Germans.

Play at eye level

Leipzig got off to a good start thanks to two power plays and led 3-1 after five minutes. Then the hosts got into the game better and a game developed at eye level (11:11/21st), with SC DHfK repeatedly having problems finding a gap in the stable Flensburg defense. The Saxons’ outside positions could hardly be integrated into the game. In the final phase of the first half, the North Germans used a double strike within 15 seconds to take a 16:14 lead at the break.

Leipzig collapses after the break – Flensburg pulls away

Leipzig missed the start of the second half and quickly fell behind 15:20 (34′). Coach Rúnar Sigtryggsson’s team repeatedly made slight mistakes and had no luck in throwing. SG keeper Kevin Möller particularly shone with a total of 15 saves. Due to the guests’ lack of penetration, the Flensburg team continued to pull away, which is why the guests’ defeat was sealed early on. The best DHfK throwers were Matej Klima and Viggo Kristjansson (5 each). The next difficult challenge awaits the Leipzig team on Saturday with record champions THW Kiel in their home game.
