Handball record champions THW Kiel got back on the road to success in the Bundesliga with a victory.

Coach Filip Jicha’s team won their fifth win of the season with a 33:29 (16:14) against TBV Lemgo Lippe after two defeats in competitive games on Sunday (October 22, 2023) and improved their points account to 10:8.

Niclas Ekberg was Kiel’s best thrower on Sunday with six goals, and they have fallen far short of their high standards so far this season.

The top teams in the league are already well ahead of themselves, and in the DHB Cup they surprisingly ended up in the round of 16 against HSG Wetzlar. During the week it also suffered its first defeat in the Champions League with a 30:34 at Kolstad Handball.

First away win for Flensburg-Handewitt

On Saturday, SG Flensburg-Handewitt landed their longed-for first away win of the season in their fifth attempt – but may have paid dearly for it.

The three-time champion won at HC Erlangen 27:22 (16:12), but has to reckon with the loss of Danish world champion Simon Pytlick. The new signing had to leave the field injured shortly before half-time after opponent Antonio Metzner fell on the backcourt player’s legs. An exact diagnosis is still pending.
