Magdeburg coach Wiegert: First frustration, then joy

“Today I didn’t manage to stay calm in the dressing room because I didn’t agree with some things in the first half”said SCM trainer Bennet Wiegert to the broadcaster “Sky”: “But ultimately I want to be more proud of the second half than angry about the first.”

After the shaky victory in the round of 16 second leg of the European League over Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday (36:35), Magdeburg found it extremely difficult in Wetzlar. The favorites were 40 minutes behind, and it was only at 23:22 that the guests took the lead and brought them home, led by Icelanders Gisli Kristjansson and Omar Ingi Magnusson (six goals each).

Kiel is struggling, Berlin fails

Record champion THW Kiel celebrated a difficult 30:27 (13:14) victory at GWD Minden in the fight for a place in the Champions League and moved up to second place. The defending champion benefited from the blunder of the rival Füchse Berlin, who did not go beyond a 32:32 (13:15) against TSV Hannover-Burgdorf.

With 42:10 points each, both teams are clearly behind the sovereign leaders SC Magdeburg (48:4). Fourth in the table is still SG Flensburg-Handewitt (40:12) after a straight 30:19 (14:9) against bottom TuS N-Lübbecke.
