Hamish Hawk: Career, style of music and previous albums of the indie artist
Born in Edinburgh in 1991, the Scottish artist Hamish James Hawk has been making music for a good 13 years. During his studies in St. Andrews, he began to write songs and published his debut album Aznavour in 2014, followed by Mull in 2015. In 2016 he founded the band Hamish Hawk & The New Outfit. His breakthrough came in 2021 with Heavy Elevator, which was nominated for the Scottish album of the Year Award. In 2023, Angel Numbers followed, which was also nominated.
In the meantime, he has created seven studio albums, the first two as Hamish James Hawk, another with his band and four under his latest artist name Hamish Hawk.
Stylistically, Hamish Hawk moves between indie and chamber pop, art rock and gothic rock and new wave. With his most recent album, a Firmer hand, Hamish Hawk reached the UK charts for the first time in early 2024 and secured first place in Scotland.
