Berlin/Hamburg (dpa -AfX) – Deutsche Bahn (DB) has awarded the last outstanding orders for the general renovation of the long -distance traffic route between Hamburg and Berlin. “This means that nothing stands in the way of a scheduled start of the general renovation on August 1, 2025,” said the company.

The train is preparing for the route renovation on the home stretch. Finally, it was about the construction contracts for the section between Hamburg-Rothenburgsort and Büchen (Schleswig-Holstein).

The surcharge for the last construction phase has now been granted as part of a Europe -wide tender procedure. The project is fully in the time and cost plan, according to the CEO of the rail infrastructure company Infrago, Philipp Nagl, who takes over the coordination of the work.

Construction work lasts until April 2026

The work should be completed by April 30, 2026. The route between Hamburg and Berlin is completely closed during this time. Goods and passenger traffic is widely diverted.

However, the renovation project is only a component of a larger project: Deutsche Bahn wants to fundamentally modernize more than 40 busy corridors by 2030 and thus ensure punctual trains. The so -called Riedbahn between Frankfurt and Mannheim started in 2024. The long -distance transport between Hamburg and Berlin is the next step ./AH/DP/Stw
