Hamann believes Alonso’s move to Bayern is “almost impossible”

Xabi Alonso is the great guarantee of success at Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Under the Spaniard, the Werkself went from relegation candidate to championship contender and currently leads the table with a whopping eight point lead. Meanwhile, there is continued speculation about the star coach’s sporting future beyond the summer.

FC Bayern, Real Madrid, Liverpool FC: All doors seem to be open to Xabi Alonso at the moment. But there is still the possibility of staying at Bayer Leverkusen for at least another year and continuing his successful work with the Rhinelanders.

Ex-national player Dietmar Hamann, who played with Alonso at Liverpool FC between 2004 and 2006, no longer believes that staying in Leverkusen is all that unlikely, as he said on “Sky” on Sunday.

“I think it is very possible that he will stay for another year,” said Hamann about the open Alonso question at Bayer Leverkusen. In order to keep the club as calm as possible in the hot phase of the Bundesliga championship race, the TV expert assumes that Alonso and the Werkself will make a decision “in the next two to four weeks” about whether the extremely successful collaboration will also remain in place in the coming season.

Hamann sees Leverkusen with Alonso as the favorites for the championship

“I believe that if he stays, the team will stay more or less together as it is now. That a Frimpong, a Boniface or a Wirtz will wait another year to move. I don’t think he will miss this opportunity let. […] If he stays there and keeps the team together, I think he’ll be favorite for the title next year. And I believe that they can play a huge role in the Champions League,” said Hamann, giving his further assessment of the 42-year-old Spaniard.

By the way, Hamann no longer believes one thing: that Xabi Alonso could move to FC Bayern this summer, where he was already under contract as an active player from 2014 to 2017: “I think Bayern is almost impossible at the moment.”

Tuchel at FC Bayern: “Incredibly difficult”

Hamann also commented on Thomas Tuchel’s personality on Sunday evening on the TV show “Sky 90”. For him, the current constellation at FC Bayern poses a particular risk for Tuchel.

This week, FC Bayern and Tuchel communicated their joint decision to the public to end their collaboration after the end of the season.

“I think it’s incredibly difficult. I see that as problematic for him (Thomas Tuchel, editor’s note) because in my opinion he can hardly win in this constellation,” predicted the 50-year-old to the current Bayern Munich player. Head coach an uncomfortable further season.
