AUDIO: BBL game between Towers and Trier canceled (4 min)
As of: January 9, 2026 9:15 a.m
Basketball Bundesliga team Hamburg Towers has no games this weekend: The reason is the snow load that falls on the Inselpark Arena due to the extreme weather in the city. The owners of the hall have closed it as a precaution.
This means that storm Elli has also reached the BBL: “The safety of visitors, athletes and staff has top priority – especially when the roof is under heavy strain due to persistent snowfall and ice formation,” said a club statement on Thursday evening. This means that the duel with the Gladiators Tier planned for Saturday is canceled for the time being. An alternative date has not yet been set.
According to the Towers, all tickets purchased for the game, which they said were informed about the closure by the owners of the multifunctional arena on Thursday evening, remain valid subject to the clarification of a catch-up date. Due to the current snow load and the formation of ice on the roof of the hall, the closure applies until at least Tuesday.
Towers still in crisis
Things could hardly be worse for the Towers this season. Across all competitions, they have only won two of a total of 26 games. After the two wins in the league shortly before Christmas, there have recently been four defeats in a row.
