The Half van Helmond on April 13 is canceled. The running event will not receive a permit because the safety of the event is insufficiently guaranteed. The organization hopes to be able to organize the Halve Van Helmond in the fall.

“It is a big disappointment for our volunteers, participants, sponsors, participating companies and the city of Helmond,” says Hans Steijaert, chairman of the Half van Helmond Foundation, in a news item on the website.

In the assessment by the municipality of Helmond at the beginning of this year, it appeared that the safety plan of the running competition was not watertight. Due to growth, the organization tried to improve safety. The organizers were told by the municipality at a late stage that they had to engage an external safety agency. The time turned out to be too short to meet the safety requirements within the set period.

“We had a lot of trouble with the municipality not being able to help write, because it is also testing for the quality of the safety plan,” explains Steijaert. “As a result, we have not been able to come to a solution efficiently and effectively. In my daily work, joint planning is very common and such a plan simply takes time.”

All registered participants receive their registration fee. The organization of the Halve Van Helmond hopes to shift the event to the fall.
