The Hilversumse Trees Lammers (65) leads ahead on Sunday in a half -naked protest march from Extinction Rebellion (XR) from the station from Hoofddorp to the town hall. Under the name ‘It is the highest tit’, the group of mayor Schuurmans demands for the ‘unequal treatment of a female demonstrator’ during an earlier demonstration.
The so -called ‘blotesting demonstration’ is a response to an incident During a climate action at Schiphol on March 8. During that action, a woman with bare torso in the frequent flyer lounge of KLM demonstrated. She was arrested for this. According to Femke van Veldhuizen, spokesperson for XR, male rebels could continue to demonstrate without problems at the same time. “Despite bare torso or even only dressed in a thong. This is sexism, pure and simple discrimination.”
“The Mareschaussee on duty has assessed the situation on the spot and acted from the independent authority,” the mayor write in a letter to Lammers. “It was taken into account that KLM Lounge is an international environment with different cultures, norms and values with regard to bare breasts.”
XR demands apologies
“Men can do that with a bare torso through the city and women are not allowed, that is not fair,” responds Lammers to NH Radio. “While some men also just have fat breasts.”
According to Lammers, the fact that the incident happened on International Women’s Day makes it extra painful. “We want the mayor to apologize to the rebel who was arrested at Schiphol.”
Area ban for Hoofddorp
Lammers cannot walk through the entire Mars herself, because she has an area ban for the Hoofddorp shopping center and for Schiphol. She got this After an action at Primark in Hoofddorp. If she does go into the area, she risks a fine of 4,500 euros or a maximum of three months in prison, she explains.
In a reaction, the municipality of Haarlemmermeer explicitly distances themselves from the allegations of sexism and discrimination by XR. A spokesperson for Mayor Schuurmans says when asked that the municipality is aware of the Mars on Sunday. “I hope that Mrs. Lammers knows that the town hall is closed on Sunday,” adds the spokesperson. The spokesperson does not want to say whether there are apologies.
