The Dutch hairdressing association calls on the ministers of the new government of the Netherlands not to appear with freshly cut haircuts for the traditional photo with the king, now that hair salons have to remain closed due to the lockdown. “That would be a very bad signal,” says the trade association ANKO.

The photo was taken on Monday at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague. “If the hair looks clearly cut, then the ministers have something to explain,” said the ANKO spokeswoman.

The barber dome wishes the new ministers “strength” now that they can’t go to the hairdresser due to the lockdown to look tiptop. “A well-groomed haircut simply gives you confidence,” says ANKO President Maurice Crusio. “And I think that’s essential if you’re posing for a platform photo that will go down in the history books. I wouldn’t want to be there with fluff, roots or a threatening mat.”

In previous lockdowns, many Dutch people chose to cut themselves, or have a partner do it, for example. ANKO also sees more and more people choosing to go to the hairdresser illegally. The sector organization calls on the Dutch and the new ministerial team to ignore both options. “Wait for your own hairdresser, would be our call, because you can never do it so well yourself.”
