Hainer suggests an extension for Müller and Neuer

President Herbert Hainer of German soccer record champions FC Bayern Munich can well imagine a contract extension with Manuel Neuer (37) and Thomas Müller (34).

“If everything develops the way it did recently, there’s nothing to say against it. But we’ll give Neuer the time now, and then the sporting management will sit down with him calmly,” said Hainer in an interview with the “Abendzeitung” (Thursday edition).

Goalkeeper Neuer recently made his comeback after his serious leg injury. “It looks as if he is already on the way to his former glory. Manuel knows what he has at FC Bayern – and we know what we have in him,” said Hainer.

This also applies to offensive player Müller: “He is a veteran of the club – there will never be anyone like him again. But there is no rush with Thomas either. He knows how much we all value him.”

After his career ends, Hainer would like to continue to involve Neuer and Müller. It is always a strength of FC Bayern to integrate players like Franz Beckenbauer, Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge into the club, said Hainer: “We will try to do that again and again because it is good for FC Bayern. That’s why I would be happy if if players like Neuer, Müller or Bastian Schweinsteiger would commit to FC Bayern in the future. This family atmosphere is also what our fans and members value.”

In the interview, Haier also commented on Neuer’s chances of being number one in the DFB goal again in the future.

“It looks as if he is already on the way to his old brilliant form. When he has achieved that, there will be no other goalkeeper in the national team who should be in goal – because Neuer is simply the best,” he said.
