Al-Ain FC and coach Alfred Schreuder are going their separate ways again after almost four months. As the club from the UAE Pro League announced, the contract was terminated by mutual consent. The reason given is a lack of consistency between Schreuder’s and his employees’ working methods and the work processes in the club. Al-Ain did not provide any further details about the differences between the club management and the coaching team.

The exit for Schreuder comes as a surprise as Al-Ain, under the leadership of the 51-year-old Dutchman, have won 13 times in 15 games this season. In the UAE Pro League, the club is in third place, two points behind the top of the table, and in the AFC Champions League it reached the round of 16 for the first time since 2017/18. It was Schreuder’s first job after leaving Ajax Amsterdam last January, and a successor will be presented shortly.

Update 3:02 p.m.: Like the journalists Cesar Luis Merlo and Fabrizio Romano According to reports, Hernán Crespo will be the new head coach. The former top striker most recently coached in the Qatar Stars League, where he had to leave just under a month ago after 49 games and a points average of 2.27. He was followed there by ex-PSG coach Christoph Galtier.

Update 6:49 p.m.: On Wednesday evening, Al-Ain FC announced that a preliminary contract had been signed with Crespo. The 48-year-old will travel to the United Arab Emirates in the coming days to clarify the details and complete the deal.
