Tommy Haas believes that tennis Olympic champion Alexander Zverev will quickly catch up with the best in the world after his serious foot injury.

“After torn ligaments in the semi-finals of the French Open, he has just had to take a longer break for the first time. After that you have to regain your confidence and strength. However, he has a good environment and I’m sure he won’t have to wait long before he comes back is at the top of the world,” said Haas in an interview with the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”.

There are no guarantees, even for Zverev’s first Grand Slam title. “Suddenly you’re in your late 20s and still don’t have a title, but I wouldn’t bet against him under any circumstances,” said the former Davis Cup player (44).

Situation can also “have something positive”

Haas, who himself often had to deal with injuries, probably didn’t have to give Zverev any advice. “Maybe he even realizes how much he cares about the sport. Such a situation can always have something positive,” said the native of Hamburg.

Zverev twisted his right foot in the semifinals of the French Open against Rafael Nadal on June 3 and tore all three lateral ligaments in his right ankle. Then he had an operation. The 25-year-old is currently completing his rehabilitation in Donaustauf.
