Most people who will soon be taken care of in the building on Belgiumlaan 3 have been living in Haarlem for a long time. They generally have work and school -going children. They are still staying in hotel rooms or on one of the refugee vessels in the Spaarne.
Fire damage
It takes a while before the daycare can be taken into use. On 13 May, the building raged shortly after midnight. The damage caused by this is restored after the summer vacation. Furthermore, the building is being prepared for the arrival of the refugees. Cars and bicycles can be parked on site.
Open day
Local residents have since been informed of the plans by letter. In October the municipality is organizing an open day for Buut dwellers. In Haarlem, about a thousand refugees from Ukraine are currently being taken care of and another 800 asylum seekers from other countries. The reception places are spread over the city.
