The hottest issue in Haarlem politics has been parking policy for years. And it will probably remain so for the next four years. The parking policy established in the previous council period will continue to be implemented. This means paid parking in more neighborhoods in the city. In addition, parking rates for visitors will be slightly increased.

Pro Haarlem will soon provide three aldermen, D66 two and the CDA may nominate one alderman. This brings the total to six aldermen, one more than in the previous period. The names and faces are known: four of the six aldermen were also on the bench before the elections. New are Maarten Wiedemeijer of Progressive Netherlands and Meryem Çimen of D66, who previously served as councilors for their party.

Building together

The three parties will continue on the path taken previously: a lot of new construction and greening of the city. Maarten Wiedemeijer succeeds Floor Roduner, who was responsible for spatial planning, among other things.

Wiedemeijer: “Floor has set a lot in motion in recent years. I hope that we can break even more construction records in the coming years. That’s what it’s all about: many Haarlem residents cannot find a home and it is really important that many new homes are delivered. It is an honor to be able to work on your ideals, I am really looking forward to it.”
