Haaland saves Manchester City against Brentford

The Premier League title fight is starting to come to a head. Manchester City remains Liverpool’s closest rival – thanks to Erling Haaland.

A single counterattack was enough for Manchester City on Tuesday evening to reduce the gap in the table to leaders Liverpool FC to one point. Coach Pep Guardiola’s team won their game at Brentford FC 1-0 (0-0). The man of the day was once again ex-BVB striker Erling Haaland, who scored the only goal of the game in the second half (71′).

World champion Julián Álvarez had put Haaland in the spotlight. The Norwegian appeared alone in the Brentford box in front of former Freiburg goalkeeper Mark Flekken and didn’t have to be asked twice. It was Haaland’s 17th goal of the season in his 20th appearance. The 23-year-old is leading the top scorers list. His pursuer Mohamed Salah from Liverpool FC has 15 goals, Dominic Solanke from AFC Bournemouth has 14 goals.

Manchester City is now in second place in the table (56 points). Liverpool FC are still at the top and can even extend their lead to four points with a three-pointer on Wednesday in the home game against Luton. The two top teams have another club breathing down their necks: Arsenal FC. The Gunners have 55 points.
