A festive day for Guus Meeuwis. The singer will blow out fifty candles on Wednesday. A special age, but looking back? The singer doesn’t like that. “A lot has happened, but there is much more beautiful things to come.”
The fact that he can call himself Abraham since Wednesday takes some getting used to for Guus. “You think: it is what it is. But then suddenly there is ’50’ on that cake. That used to sound very old.” Not that it shows on him. “And in the head I also feel between 25 and 30. Only the knees, they are really fifty”, he laughs.
Looking back may not be his greatest hobby, but what if he has to name some highlights from that half century? “There are so many. Beautiful children have been born, love has blossomed. Those are the more important things in life.”
And then we haven’t even mentioned his career, which has been booming since his breakthrough in 1995. “Do I sometimes still feel a bit like the student from back then? Well, it’s becoming more and more hidden.”
Student or not, Guus does not turn his hand around for a good party. “On the contrary. A very busy and fun year is planned. Friends of Amstel Live, after two years Great again with a Soft G and we are finally going to New York. Everything now comes together at once. In short: it promises again going to be a very good year.”
