The governor of Salta, Gustavo Saenzlaunched a harsh attack against Cristina Kirchner when questioning the role she plays as president of the Justicialista Party. “We are tired of the lady finger-typing everything that needs to be done“, he stated, referring to the national leadership of Peronism and the decisions made regarding the provincial parties.
The statements came after an institutional meeting, but Sáenz took advantage of the occasion to expose a discomfort that, as he stated, is shared by several interior leaders. In this framework, he denounced practices that he considered authoritarian within the PJ and demanded greater democratic openness in decision-making.
The Salta president especially pointed out against the suspension of internal elections and the intervention of party structures in different provinces, as happened in Jujuy, where leaders and members were sanctioned. For Sáenz, these types of measures reflect a logic of centralized leadership that ends up weakening Peronism in the territories.
“You cannot build a federal project if everything is decided from Buenos Aires,” he said, and stressed the need to end a scheme that, in his opinion, marginalizes provincial leaders and limits internal participation.
Sáenz’s position is part of a context of growing tension within the PJ, crossed by debates about leadership, electoral strategies and the future of space. While Kirchnerism retains a decisive weight in the party structure, different governors and mayors demand a renewal in the forms of leadership and greater autonomy for the provinces.
