Guest expresses solidarity with Palestine

On Sunday (October 8th), one day after the outbreak of war in Israel, the X account of the ProSieben show “Late Night Berlin” announced that it wanted to bring rapper Nura onto the show to celebrate her new album. This is now causing harsh criticism because the Berliner, who comes from Eritrea, posted controversial statements on her channels on the same day.

Nuras Show of solidarity for Palestine

As announced on Sunday morning (October 8th), one day after the Hamas attack on Israel, the rapper Nura is planned to be on the show with Heufer-Umlauf. The exact wording of the announcement (now deleted as a posting):

“Musician, actress & best-selling author Nura drops by with news about her newly released 3rd album ‘Periodt’, while @giantrooksmusic brings her latest hit ‘For You’ to your ears. #LateNightBerlin – Tuesday 10:10 p.m @prosieben & @JoynDeutschland!”

On the same day – after the announcement – the 34-year-old posted a statement on her Instagram story that discussed the war in Israel. In her story there was a photo of her in a group of people. “Free Palestine” was clearly written in the background. This is the slogan for supporters of the Palestinians. In the course of this, she pointed out her new single “For us, by us”.

A lot of criticism of ProSieben and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf

The users then reacted to X with a lot of criticism of “Late Night Berlin” and the announced guest.

“Focus” columnist Jan Fleischhauer shared the photo from Nura’s story in his post and wrote: “This is Klaas Heufer-Umlauf, the presenter of bright Germany. And this is his star guest Nura, who sends greetings of support to Gaza one day after the massacre of hundreds of young Israelis. But sure, why not promote a little hatred of Jews @ProSieben, That too is diversity.”

“In a democracy, everyone can have their say”

Another user pointed out that Klaas Heufer-Umlauf wasn’t inviting the guests: “That’s probably the cancel culture that the conservatives are always complaining about. By the way, it’s not Klaas who invites the guests. The concept of the show is that he doesn’t know the guest until the show starts. Of course it’s still wrong to invite her.”

Another user replied: “Everyone must be allowed to have their say in a democracy. Behavior relevant to criminal law can be reported.”

Some also asked in the comments whether Nura’s posting would be discussed in the show if the rapper was not disinvited.
