FC Bayern has to cope with a bitter defeat in Rotterdam. Defender Guerreiro is not the only total loss for Munich. The individual criticism.
After FC Bayern’s next away flop in the Champions League, the Feyenoord fans said goodbye to the Munich stars with malicious shouts of “goodbye”. More than ever, after the cold shower of 0:3 (0:2) in the cool rain of Rotterdam, Bayern have to fear an extra round that is as annoying as it is dangerous in the fight for a place in the round of 16. “Very bitter,” said captain Manuel Neuer about the bankruptcy. The goalkeeper reported to DAZN about “frustration and disappointment” in the dressing room.
Coach Vincent Kompany and his team fell back to 15th place in the table with twelve points – still behind Feyenoord (13). Even with a home win on the last matchday in a week against Slovan Bratislava, the Bundesliga table leaders will hardly make it into the top 8 in the current constellation. In February there is a risk of an extra knockout round in the fight for the round of 16. The final on May 31st has moved very far away in terms of sport.
The Mexican international Santiago Giminez was the one man of the evening at “De Kuip” with his two powerful goals from the edge of the penalty area (21st minute) and from the penalty spot (45th + 9th). The other was Justin Bijlow. The Feyenoord goalkeeper not only made Bayern striker Harry Kane despair in the 50th premier class game. Bijlow saved almost everything in front of over 50,000 spectators – and was lucky that substitute Leroy Sané headed onto the post (70th).
Ayase Ueda added the goal for the hosts in the 88th minute. Bayern’s nerves were finally on edge. Substitute goalkeeper Sven Ulreich was shown a red card for complaining on the bench. “We have to learn our lessons from this,” warned Neuer after the big hit in the Netherlands.
In particular, substitute Raphaël Guerreiro, who took the penalty to make it 0-1, had a very weak day. But he wasn’t the only total failure on Bayern’s side. You can read the individual criticism here or in the photo show above.
