Groen puts the cumul on the table again: “Mayors and aldermen who are also members of parliament, string together the absences in parliament” | Interior

The decumul is already a fact in the Brussels Parliament. After 2024 no mayors or aldermen will be allowed to sit there. Accumulation is also not possible within the Green party.

“Nobody can do two full-time jobs,” says Groen chairman Jeremie Vaneeckhout. “The idea that aldermen or mayors who are also members of parliament could do that is an illusion. It is high time that there was austerity again in the power that politicians have and the remuneration they receive for it.”

According to information collected by Groen, 35 of the 69 sitting MPs of the majority also have an executive local mandate. “Mayors and aldermen who are also members of parliament string together the absences in parliament,” says Vaneeckhout. “Some of them you simply never see in parliament. That is contemptuous towards the voter who has asked them to stand up for them.”
