Sebastian Samuelsson congratulates Sturla Holm Laegreid on winning the overall biathlon World Cup. The two -time world champion would only like to snatch the large crystal ball again to the new title holder in the coming season.

“It is impressive that Sturla won. He was close and now he has made it. You can only congratulate him,” Sebastian Samuelsson is quoted by the Swedish newspaper “Express”.

Laegreid’s victory in the overall biathlon World Cup is “well deserved”, praised the 27-year-old. “I hope he enjoys it very much, because it won’t be easy in the next few years,” added Samuelsson with a view of Laegreid.

However, the Swede is looking at the large crystal ball in the biathlon for the future and would probably only like to snatch it from its Norwegian competitor. “This is what I dream of and what I work for,” said Samuelsson about his big goal.

Norwegian-Swedish duel in biathlon?

The ski hunter has already won two gold medals at World Championships in his career. Samuelsson also triumphed with the Swedish men’s relay at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

The Scandinavian graduated from the 2024/25 biathlon season with 875 points behind Laegreid (1291), Johannes Thingnes Bø (1173) and Eric Perrot (926).

“So I hope that we will get a Norwegian-Swedish duel next year. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time, actually since Sebbe in Pyeongchang in 2018.

With Johannes Thingnes Bø and Tarjei Bø, two large biathlon legends said goodbye to the “athlete’s pension” at the season finale in Oslo. The Norwegian brothers together have six overall World Cup victories.
