A tragic misfortune shakes the US climbing scene: 23-year-old extreme athlete Balin Miller died in a climbing attempt on El Capitan in the Yosemite National Park.

According to the US broadcaster CNN, Miller was on the route “Sea of Dreams” when the crash fell. The El Capitan, about 914 meters high, is one of the most famous climbing goals worldwide. The partly vertical rock wall was known internationally, among other things, through the Oscar-winning documentary “Free Solo”, in which Alex Honnold dared to climb through ropes.

Miller was no stranger to the climbing scene. He had documented some of his tours live on Tikok. Because of his striking camping equipment, he got the nickname “Orange Tent Guy”.

His mother wrote that her son wanted to fulfill a long-cherished dream in the Yosemite National Park. He recently had been on a demanding ice and alpine climbing tour in his homeland in Alaska.
