Greuther Fürth has signed offensive talent Leander Popp from Hertha BSC. As the “Kleeblatt” reported on Monday, the 18-year-old winger signed until 2027 and is set to take his first steps in professional football with the second division club. So far, the left winger has only been used for the “Old Lady” as a secondary representative in the Regionalliga Nordost and in the U19 Bundesliga.
Despite his former working paper, the U18 national player will not be due a transfer fee until the summer of 2024. Since Popp had not yet signed a professional contract with Hertha, only training compensation has to be paid.
“Leander is a young player who has very good speed and a goal threat,” explained sports director Rachid Azzouzi. “He is one of the top talents in his year, has played successful years at the highest level in the junior sector and now wants to take his first steps in professional football with us.” Popp added: “I am really happy to be here in Fürth now . The path that the gaming association is taking with young players is known throughout Germany. That’s why I’m very happy that I have the chance to show myself in professional football. I really enjoy the football that is played here at the ‘Kleeblatt’ and hope that I can soon contribute my part to the team’s success.”
