SpVgg Greuther Fürth has at least temporarily left the relegation zone in the 2nd Bundesliga, but again left important points behind. Coach Marc Schneider’s team only managed a 2-2 (1-0) draw against Hansa Rostock on the 12th matchday.
The home team’s lead by Branimir Hrgota (20′) was equalized by Lukas Fröde (57′). After Ragnar Ache (60′) took the lead in Fürth again, Ryan Malone scored a penalty kick (90’+3) in added time for the guests to win the point.
With one point, the Franks, unbeaten in four games, climbed to 15th place. Rostock (14 points) remains in the middle of the table.
In the first duel between the two teams since matchday 34 of the 2011/12 season, Fürth initially took the lead, but the guests had the first chances. Anderson Lucoqui failed in front of 10,516 spectators with his header at Greuther keeper Andreas Linde (10th), Lukas Hinterseer headed over the goal a little later.
In the middle of the good phase of the Rostock team, the surprising 1:0 fell – thanks to the captain. Hrgota took advantage of an unsuccessful attempt to clear by Damian Roßbach and hit the lead with a hard left-footed shot. Hrgota had another first-class chance with a shot at the crossbar (36′) in the first half, which was characterized by great hardship, injuries and numerous stoppages.
Physically it stayed after the break. Fröde used a tussle in the Fürth penalty area to equalize with a header, only three minutes later Ache also scored with a header. Two minutes later, the home side were decimated, John Verhoek received a yellow-red card from referee Nicolas Winter (Hagenbach). Shortly before the final whistle, Max Christiansen fouled Svante Ingelsson, Malone converted ice cold.
