Greek track ready in New York: tennis player from Nieuw-Vennep eliminated at US Open

Tallon Greek track has already been eliminated in the first round of the US Open. The tennis player from Nieuw-Vennep lost in New York in a compelling five-setter against the Frenchman Arthur Fils. After almost four hours of tennis it became: 4-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.

Fils suffered a cramp in his right leg halfway through the fourth set. Shortly before that, the Greek track had undergone injury treatment. The Dutchman was treated on his left upper leg.

After the cramp attack at Fils, the game seemed over. The Frenchman could barely move and kept the points short. With risky tennis he stayed in the game, although he regularly had to take extra time between points. Shortly after the attack, he did not sit on his bench during the side changes in order to keep moving. In the fifth set, however, Fils looked fit again and at 5-5 he broke Greek track, who closed the game with a double fault.

Attrition

After 3 hours and 58 minutes, the number 48 in the world used his third game point with a backhand volley, after which he stretched out on the court. It was the 19-year-old Frenchman’s first ever win at a grand slam.

The elimination is a major setback for the Greek track, which has been in good shape in recent months. Greek track won the ATP tournament in Pune in India at the beginning of this year and therefore rose considerably in the world ranking. After his title in Rosmalen this summer, he even entered the top 30 and was seeded at Wimbledon. After a place in the final in Washington earlier this month, he currently holds his highest ranking.
