Greek track is disappointed with Krajicek and late evening match in empty Ahoy | Sport

Tallon groenpoor is disappointed that he had to play the second evening match at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament on Thursday. Due to the corona measures in force and the ‘closing time’ of 10 p.m., he faced Hungarian Marton Fucsovics in the second round in a desolate Ahoy.

“I was definitely not happy about it. I also requested to play earlier in the day, although I should have played at 09:00 am”, said Greekpoor (25) after his 6-4 7-6 (4) defeat. ,,The explanation was that there were too many big boys playing today. And somehow that’s understandable. But the entire home advantage has been taken away from me and we only play in Ahoy once a year.”

According to Greek track, tournament director Richard Krajicek should have stood up a bit more for his compatriots. “In my view, yes. Botic van de Zandschulp also played without an audience on Tuesday and I think that could have been done differently,” said Greek track, the world number 62.

,,If I had won this match, I would have had to play again without an audience against Andrei Roeblev on Friday. Then I ask myself: what do I have to do to play with an audience?” Roeblev is the title holder in Rotterdam and the number 7 in the world.

Greek track indicated that he had considered dropping the Rotterdam tournament to travel to South America for a series of clay tournaments. “I doubted that for a long time. I feel a little more comfortable on gravel, but in Ahoy I’ve done great things in the past. That’s why I chose this tournament anyway. Will I include this decision in my choice for next year? Maybe yes.”

According to the tournament, the choice to have Greek track play the second evening game also has to do with the interests of, among others, the broadcasting agents.

Greek track had received a wildcard for the ABN AMRO tournament for the fifth time. This year he managed to survive the first round for the third time. In 2018 he surprised the Swiss Stan Wawrinka in Rotterdam and a year later he was too strong for the Russian Karen Chatsjanov. Last year Krajicek preferred Robin Haase.

May not be in Marseille for US visa

Greek track may also be forced to unsubscribe from next week’s indoor tournament in Marseille. The number 2 in the Netherlands hopes to finally obtain a visa for the United States, where he wants to participate in the masters tournaments of Indian Wells and Miami next month.

The 25-year-old Greek Rail lost his passport at the end of 2020, forcing him to apply for a visa for the US again. That’s because he played two tournaments in Iran in 2015. He has still not obtained that visa due to circumstances.

,,I’m still messing with my American visa, but I can arrange it in Paris on Tuesday morning. So I have to ask the organization in Marseille if I can play on Monday and that I go back and forth. But I have to leave my passport, so I can’t fly. It’s a difficult situation and I have no idea if it will all work out,” said Greek track.

“That visa has already caused me a lot of stress and misery. The US visa is priority number 1, because then I will be off it for years. I would gladly skip a tournament for that.”
