Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey has Corona

The Governing Mayor is ill with Corona. On Friday afternoon, Franziska Giffey (43) got the result of a PCR test: positive!

The SPD politician made the disease public herself – on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. “Unfortunately, I also had a positive PCR test and therefore immediately go into isolation,” wrote Giffey. “So far I have no symptoms.”

All appointments in the coming days should take place as telephone or video conferences if possible. On Monday morning, Giffey wanted to lead the “Alliance for New Housing” in the Red City Hall, and the following day the weekly meeting of the Senate. On Wednesday there was a reception for the Berlin Olympians in the coat of arms hall of the town hall.

On Friday morning, Giffey met the Bishop of the Evangelical Church, Christian Stäblein, in the Red Town Hall. Topics of the conversation included the effects of the corona pandemic on church and pastoral work. The two were together for about an hour. Stäblein has now been tested for Corona, his test was negative. The bishop to the BZ: “I wish Mrs. Giffey a speedy recovery!”

The Governing Mayor does a quick test every day. On Friday, she actually wanted to take part in the mayor’s panel at the Munich Security Conference, together with counterparts from Budapest, Istanbul and Warsaw. Shortly before the Bavarian state capital, she learned the result of her PCR test. “That means we’re going back immediately,” Giffey said on Instagram.
