Gosling disappointed by co-stars’ lack of Oscar noms

The nominations for the 2024 Academy Awards were announced on January 23rd. “Barbie” received a total of eight nominations – including in the categories “Best Film”, “Best Supporting Actor” (nominated: Ryan Gosling) and “Best Supporting Actress” (America Ferrera). In the “Best Actress” category, “Barbie” protagonist Margot Robbie had to come away empty-handed and Greta Gerwig was also not listed as a candidate for an Academy Award for “Best Director”. Ken actor Ryan Gosling couldn’t hide his disappointment.

Ryan Gosling: honored and disappointed at the same time

Via “The Hollywood Reporter,” Gosling shared his joy about his own nomination, but also his displeasure because Gerwig and Robbie were ignored. Celebrating the filmmaker and the leading actress, who also served as a producer, he said, “Against all odds, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts with nothing more than a few soulless, scantily clad and blissfully crotchless puppets , they advanced culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized alongside the other very deserving nominees.”

To get to the point, he explained, “There’s no Ken without Barbie, and there’s no ‘Barbie’ movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.”

He also said he would also applaud his colleague America Ferrera, who plays Mattel employee Gloria in “Barbie.”

Trophies for Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig still possible

Even if Margot Robbie isn’t up for Best Actress and Greta Gerwig isn’t up for Best Director at the Oscars, they still have a chance of winning in other categories. Gerwig’s name appears in the list for “Best Adapted Screenplay” (although she would have to share this award with her co-author and partner Noah Baumbach) and Robbie would be at the award ceremony on the night of March 10th to 11th, 2024 would be called on stage if “Barbie” were to become the “Best Film” of the year.

What nominations are still open for “Barbie”: Best Original Song (for Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken” as well as Billie Eilish and Finneas’ “What Was I Made For?”), Best Production Design and Best Costume Design wins .
