The guesswork surrounding Leon Goretzka’s future at FC Bayern could be over: the midfielder is now said to have provided clarity.
Is he staying? Is he already going on winter break? Leon Goretzka’s personnel continues to concern him around FC Bayern. Now the speculation about the 29-year-old’s future may have come to an end. Because: As the pay-TV channel Sky reported on Saturday afternoon, Goretzka will also wear the FC Bayern jersey in the second half of the season.
The midfielder decided to stay in Munich until the end of the season and finish the current season with the record champions – despite interest from top international clubs such as Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and SSC Napoli. According to the report, Goretzka is highly motivated and is also valued by Bayern coach Vincent Kompany. A change in the January transfer window is therefore not up for debate.
The speculation about a possible departure of the professional from Munich had gained momentum over the course of the season so far, as Goretzka repeatedly switched between being on the bench and starting eleven. After just nine minutes of playing time in the first seven Bundesliga games, Kompany relied more heavily on Goretzka again in the last few games and started him in the last three games across all competitions – also because Aleksandar Pavlović and João Palhinha were missing due to injuries.
Goretzka moved to the German record champions from FC Schalke 04 on a free transfer in 2018; his current contract runs until 2026.
