Gordon has chosen to switch to Rob Jetten, the leader of D66, after 35 years of voting for the VVD. “It is time for the first gay Prime Minister,” the Radio 10 DJ said.

The rise that Rob Jetten (38) has made in the polls is unprecedented: under his leadership, D66 may grow into the largest party in the Netherlands, and he would then leave the much older Frans Timmermans (64) of the other left-wing party GroenLinks-PvdA disillusioned. Henri Bontenbal (CDA) and Dilan Yesilgöz (VVD) also still have a chance.

Goor chooses Rob

Gordon says that this time he is going for D66. “It was a difficult decision. After 35 years of being loyal to the VVD (I remain a member😅😛), I think it is time for change and decency. Even though Dilan Yesilgöz has done more than well last week, Rob Jetten deserves my vote!”, he says on Instagram.

He continues: “The first gay Prime Minister and especially the ten new cities and creating space for home seekers. I expect a monster score for Rob who can be a worthy head of government!! Here’s hoping!”

Victory

TV critic Victor Vlam expects Gordon to be at his beck and call. “I think that Rob Jetten once again did an excellent job in the Final Debate and that he even helped D66 to victory. I say this with pain in my heart, because I am going to vote JA21, but I do think that what Rob Jetten does works for many voters.”

He saw a Geert Wilders who is still not in his old form. He continues Victor Indicates TV: “It is still not the Wilders of a few years ago and it offered the opportunity for Rob Jetten to position himself as a constructive alternative to the bickering on the right and I think that is something that many voters are looking forward to.”

Points of view

Jetten does not win because of his views, Victor thinks. “My theory about these elections is that many voters see the right-wing cabinet as a failed experiment and that is why they now want to play it safe. This means that they are looking for someone solid, reliable. Initially that was Bontenbal.”

However, Bontenbal has lost weight after his statements about gays in religious education, so now they are punishing him with a gay prime minister. “It is not the case that people in the Netherlands massively embrace the positions of D66 (…) but they see Rob Jetten as a capable person who is reliable and solid. So that is what the voter is looking for.”
