Google releases first Chromecast with remote and Google TV | NOW

Google officially launches its new Chromecast with Google TV in the Netherlands. With the small device, which is tucked into the back of the TV, people can use apps from streaming services such as Netflix, HBO Max and Videoland.

The Chromecast with Google TV was already released in various countries in 2020 and was already available through some importers in the Netherlands. Now Google itself is officially releasing it in the country.

The difference with older Chromecasts is that the new ones can not only be used to stream images from a smartphone or tablet to the television. The box itself contains a complete TV interface with video services for the first time. Users can also install apps themselves. According to Google, there are now 6,500 apps and services available.

Google is also providing a remote control for the first time to navigate Google TV. The remote has buttons for Netflix and Disney+. In addition, there is a button for Google Assistant. By pressing it, it is possible to search for specific films or series.

The Chromecast can also be connected to various smart devices from Google. For example, the remote control can also be used to dim lights or show images from the smart Nest doorbell on the TV.

The Chromecast offers images in 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. In addition, there is support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio. The device will be available for purchase in the Google Store from 9 a.m. Tuesday for 69.99 euros. From 21 June it will also appear on BCC, bol.com, Coolblue and MediaMarkt.
