Baan cycling – Maike van der Duin from Assen looks back on a successful European Baan cycling European Championship. Yesterday she grabbed bronze at the points race and today she won on the couple race together with Lisa van Belle. “We knew we were both doing well,” she says.
Van der Duin (23) and Van Belle (21) have actually been in a good shape since the Olympic Games last summer. “We already started this process for the Games. Then we went home with bronze,” says Van der Duin.
She continues: “It was then ‘The unexpected bronze of Lisa and Maike’. That was true, but that we now show such a competition that it was not only an outlier. That is fucking great.”
They already saw that the two are in shape during the training sessions. “And it has also been confirmed in recent days with a podium place for both of us. So we were at the start with confidence.” According to Van der Duin, they sometimes wonder if they are not overestimating. Van Belle quickly adds: “But we secretly knew it was in it.”
