Going to the AZ stadium for a few minutes after an abandoned match: “Never experienced this before”

AZ supporters can go to the stadium for a few minutes tonight to cheer on their favorite club during the previously abandoned match against NEC. The suspended match between Ajax and RKC will also be played tonight. The public is allowed to be present at both matches, even if only for the last few minutes.

The match between Ajax and RKC was stopped on September 30, because goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen became unconscious after a collision with Ajax player Brian Brobbey. Ajax-RKC (3-2) resumes in the 86th minute and is played in Waalwijk.

AZ-NEC stopped in the 90th minute on October 29, because NEC striker Bas Dost suddenly fell to the ground with an inflamed heart muscle. This match only concerns the last minute and injury time, which amounts to 5 minutes of playing time.

The question for the fans is whether they will go to the stadium to support their club in those last few minutes. AZ fan Koen Glorie quickly made his choice to go, but still finds it a special sensation. “I have never experienced this before,” he tells NH Radio.

Screaming for goals

Normally, supporters sit in their seats for at least an hour and a half and enjoy a beer, but things will be very different tonight in Alkmaar. “I think everyone will remain standing,” Koen expects. “To shout AZ towards one or perhaps two goals.”

The big question is of course whether that will work within 5 minutes. Koen believes so. “I am confident. At least in a goal.”

‘Real club love’

Koen is lucky: the match is in Alkmaar and therefore close. More than two hundred supporters from the Nijmegen region will also visit the stadium. “That is real club love,” the AZ supporter responds. He doesn’t know whether he would travel two hours to the NEC stadium for five minutes of playing time. “I don’t dare say that, that would be a dilemma.”

He has to explain that Koen is going to the stadium tonight. “But it will happen tonight. If it does, then at least I can say I was there.”
