Globetrotter and #she is outdoors organized day of action for female adventurers

Hamburg, a day for globetrotters, adventurers and everyone who wants to become one: On August 20th, Globetrotter and #she is outdoors offered a varied program of workshops and lectures on the topics of women and outdoor sports in the Berlin Globetrotter branch. In addition to a guided tour through the exhibition of the winning products of the world’s first Women’s Gear Award #she is outdoors, there was an opportunity for informal exchange with outdoor experts.

Award co-founder Jana Erb personally took the opportunity to guide the women present through the exhibition. Detailed background knowledge on textiles, cuts and carrying frames as well as on the design processes of the brands was offered. A look behind the scenes of the #she is outdoors award and the underlying decision-making processes were also not neglected.

In the two workshops that followed, the knowledge that is needed for successful adventures was imparted: It doesn’t matter whether it’s the first solo tour, the first via ferrata or the first multi-day tour – it helps to be well prepared. Tour planning and packing lists were therefore on the agenda of the first workshop. Partner Komoot put together special tour suggestions and granted a discount on its navigation app.

If the equipment breaks down on tour due to wind, weather, sharp-edged stones or other influences, this can have fatal consequences depending on the tour and weather conditions. In the second workshop of the campaign day, the visitors learned from the partner Gear Aid which patches and adhesives can be used to carry out the most common repairs in the outdoor area.

The program was rounded off with two exciting lectures by travel blogger Anuschka Dinter and extreme mountaineer Alix von Melle. Anschuka Dinter took the visitors on a winter trip to Lapland and reported on their work on a husky farm and traveling alone as a woman. Since 2014 she has been blogging about her travels and experiences on Rosa’s travels and has been touring all over Germany with her lectures since 2015.

In her lecture “Woman power 8000 plus – female high-altitude mountaineering”, Alix von Melle reported on her experiences as a woman in extreme sports – because high-altitude mountaineering is still a male-dominated sport. In her lecture, she gave the audience insights into the fascinating world of the eight-thousanders and reported impressively on female experiences, feelings and everyday expedition life “in thin air”.

About #she is outdoors:

#she is outdoors was founded in February 2021 by Jana Erb and Miriam Mayer. The award is the first of its kind because it tests products with a focus on the target group of women. #she is outdoors wants to point out the importance of a specific development. At the same time, products are highlighted that are perfectly tailored to the users and shine in use on expeditions, for adventurers, sportswomen, girl scouts, outdoor enthusiasts and all other nature lovers. In the summer, the award was given to ten products in different categories for the third time.
