Oliver Glasner will end his chapter at Crystal Palace in the summer. What had previously been considered likely was officially confirmed by the Austrian on Friday at the press conference of the London club, where the Salzburg native already has almost 100 competitive games under his belt after his departure from Eintracht Frankfurt. Glasner was still ignorant about what would happen after his contract ended after the season.

“I told Steve (Parish; club boss) that I was looking for a new challenge,” Glasner told press representatives on Friday. He recently indicated that a decision about his future would be made by the end of January at the latest. Now the 51-year-old is sure well before the end of this period.

On Friday, Glasner once again asserted that his decision had “nothing to do with the transfer window.” In the last few weeks and months there has been repeated speculation that Glasner would leave the Eagles if top defender Marc Guéhi (25) was sold. What could be avoided in the last summer transfer window will apparently happen in the current transfer period. Guéhi’s move to Manchester City is now considered certain.

Glasner struggles with rumors at Crystal Palace

“I hate it when something is written that is not true,” Glasner now stated in relation to speculation of this kind. He added that it was difficult for him to respond to such rumors to the club management. “We have a great relationship and always talk about what’s best for Palace.”

Glasner did not show any signs of a future employer from the summer. “I haven’t spoken to any other club,” he emphasized. “I told the players and promised them that I would do my best to break the points record. We will do everything we can to bring another title to Selhurst Park.” In the summer, Glasner won the FA Cup and the English Super Cup with the South Londoners.

Rumors about Glasner’s future – regarding a new club – have so far been limited. Cryptic information was provided during Glasner’s press conference by transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, who wrote at the end of last year for short message service X that Glasner would not continue at Palace from the summer onwards. On Friday he posted some emojis in reference to the post at the time, which can only be speculated about. The German flag was underneath as well as an eagle symbol. The latter fits Glasner’s current as well as his previous club from Frankfurt.

“We will do our best,” Glasner continued. The former Wolfsburg player still has at least 19 games left until the end of the season, 17 of them in the Premier League. The Eagles have already been eliminated from the national cup competitions. A title is only conceivable in the Conference League. In the league, Palace is in 13th place with currently 28 points. For the points record in the Premier League mentioned by Glasner, 25 more would be needed. Glasner’s team only set their best score of 53 points in the summer.
