2.01 points on average
Glasgow Rangers have parted ways with coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst. The 55-time Scottish champion announced this on Monday. The ex-professional took over the club from the Premiership in November 2021 and scored an average of 2.01 points in a total of 68 games on the sidelines. This season, however, they are already far behind leaders Celtic Glasgow after the 16th matchday. While the archrival leads the league with 42 points, Rangers collected nine points less.
“Unfortunately, the results and performance in recent months have not lived up to expectations, so the board decided today to terminate the coach’s contract,” said a press release about the reasons for the 47-year-old’s departure. CEO Douglas Park added: “I would like to thank Gio for all the hard work he has put in over the past 12 months and especially for the successes he has shown leading the club to the Europa League final and last season’s Scottish Cup.”
Van Bronckhorst also qualified for the Champions League with Rangers for the first time in 12 years, but lost all six group games, including a 7-1 loss to Liverpool.
