No time window for looking for a trainer

Eugen Polanski remains head coach of Borussia Mönchengladbach for the time being. Rouven Schröder, the club’s new sports director, explained this when he was introduced. “We don’t give ourselves a time window. The conviction is there, Eugen Polanski radiates something positive and is our head coach,” said Schröder. “He makes a good and clear impression,” said the new Head of Sports at Borussia.
Polanski initially took over the job on an interim basis after Gladbach separated from Gerardo Seoane and has so far only taken two points from the games against Bayer Leverkusen (1:1), Eintracht Frankfurt (4:6) and SC Freiburg (0:0). The club has thus set an internal negative record of 13 games without a win in the Bundesliga. The Gladbachers had been in such a bad position after the first six matchdays in the season after promotion in 2008. The last time they were without a win in the first six games was 35 years ago (see all Borussia’s season records by matchday).
Schröder was introduced on Thursday as the successor to sports director Roland Virkus. “The spark immediately ignited for me. I was immediately convinced to take this step,” said the 49-year-old. Polanski said he thought it was cool that Schröder was taking the job. “It’s someone who could have been happy with the other position. He would have earned his money sensibly and is consciously choosing Borussia Mönchengladbach. That speaks for him,” said Borussia’s coach.
Polanski: “Don’t feel like we have to do anything differently”
About his mixed start with the Foals so far, Polanski said: “I don’t feel that we are inhibited or that we have to do anything differently. We were able to expand on the steps we had taken in the international match week – especially through the test against Preußen Münster, in which we implemented many things well. I think that we took a good step in Leverkusen, took another step in the right direction against Freiburg and in between against Frankfurt had to learn a lot. Nevertheless, we now absolutely want to overturn the problem and get three points.”
