Gladbach wants to commit offensive quality – Thuram should extend

Beljo, Sörloth & Co. in focus

On the home straight of the summer transfer period, Borussia Mönchengladbach is hoping for the urgently needed support on the offensive and, at best, for the contract extension of Marcus Thuram (20). After the sale of Breel Embolo (25), the French international is the sole entertainer in the front attacking position and is the top scorer with five competitive goals from three games. If Thuram were to receive a huge offer before the September 1 transfer deadline and the club agreed, the gap in attack would be even bigger.

“We have never made a secret of the fact that we are not on a bed of roses in the offensive area,” said coach Daniel Farke before the game against Hertha BSC this Friday (8:30 p.m. / DAZN). Above all, Gladbach’s new coach misses the alternatives. “We don’t have a lot of Bundesliga experience on our bench at the moment. That’s why we’re trying to add more quality to our squad,” he said. Farke promised that you would be wide awake until the end of the transfer window.

Alassane Plea (29), nominally also a center forward, plays on the left wing under Farke and has already prepared five goals this season. Patrick Herrmann (31), Jonas Hofmann (30) and Yvandro Borges Sanches (18), who was brought up from youth, are also outside players, while Conor Noß (21) is more likely to play behind a real nine. Most recently, Leipzig’s Alexander Sörloth (26), Bayern’s Joshua Zirkzee (21) and Croatian talent Dion Drena Beljo (20) have been linked to Gladbach by NK Osijek. A return to Anderlecht seems most likely for Zirkzee at the moment, but there has been at least a verbal agreement with Beljo for a little over a week. However, according to “Sky”, Osijek demands a fee of between 6 million and 10 million euros.

The first glimmer of hope is the unexpected return of captain Lars Stindl (33) after his muscle injury. “We didn’t expect him at all. He’s certainly not an issue for 90 minutes, but could become an issue for the squad. That would be important for us,” said Farke.
