Haris Tabakovic led Borussia Mönchengladbach to their first win of the season in the Bundesliga. The 31-year-old striker contributed the first two goals to the well-deserved 4-0 (2-0) win at weak FC St. Pauli. Thanks to Gladbach’s success, Hamburg’s negative streak extended to six defeats in a row, and for the fourth time in a row, the Kiezkickers remained without a goal of their own.
The outstanding Tabakovic took advantage of a mistake by St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj in the 15th minute to score his fourth goal of the season, and in the 40th minute he increased the score after an assist from Franck Honorat. Substitutes Shuto Machino (75th) and Oscar Fraulo (80th) made the decision in the second half.
Thanks to their first success, the Gladbachers left last place in the table with six points. For FC St. Pauli the situation is becoming increasingly threatening with seven points.
RB Leipzig sets a starting record with a win against VfB Stuttgart
RB Leipzig continues its winning streak and sets a Bundesliga start record with coach Ole Werner. With the 3:1 (1:0) in the Bundesliga top game against pursuers VfB Stuttgart, the Saxons recorded their seventh win in their eighth game without defeat and thus remain Bayern’s number one pursuer.
Jeff Chabot (45th minute) put RB in the lead with an own goal in front of 47,800 spectators in the sold-out Red Bull Arena before Yan Diomande (53rd) increased. Substitute Tiago Tomás (65′) scored the next goal for VfB before Rômulo (90’+1) marked the final score.
The success against the Swabians also meant a club record for Coach Werner. After the 0:6 at the start in Munich, seven wins and one draw followed in the following Bundesliga games – that’s 22 points. RB had its best start to the season so far in the 2016/17 debut season under Ralph Hasenhüttl, when they had 21 points after nine games.
Next setback: Eintracht Frankfurt plays 1-1 in Heidenheim
A few days after the unfortunate exit in the DFB Cup against Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt suffered another blow to their mood and had to settle for just one point against relegation candidate 1. FC Heidenheim. While the Hessians failed to gain self-confidence for the Champions League duel at SSC Naples, FCH coach Frank Schmidt’s team scored a potentially important point on the way to staying in the league with the 1:1 (1:0).
In front of 15,000 spectators, Rasmus Kristensen prevented the next setback for Eintracht in the 55th minute, who also had to cope with the injury-related loss of shooting star Can Uzun. Previously, Budu Zivzivadze (32nd) had put FCH in the lead.
Mainz 05 again without a win after a late shock: 1-1 against Werder Bremen
1. FSV Mainz 05 missed the longed-for liberation in the duel with feared opponents Werder Bremen. Coach Bo Henriksen’s team drew 1-1 (1-0) at home with Werder and are stuck in the bottom of the table after their fifth game in a row without a win in the upper house.
Bremen, on the other hand, has now been unbeaten for four games. However, the draw in Mainz ended a four-game winning streak against FSV. Mainz captain Silvan Widmer gave the home team a deserved lead in the 36th minute. In the final phase, Jens Stage saved Bremen a point with a remarkable volley (86th).

Video referee concedes goals: Union Berlin scoreless against SC Freiburg
SC Freiburg also missed out on a Bundesliga victory at 1. FC Union Berlin in their seventh attempt. As in the previous year, the Breisgauer team had to settle for a 0-0 draw in a game with two goals disallowed after tricky video decisions. Due to the draw in front of 22,012 spectators in the stadium at the Alte Försterei, both teams remain in the middle of the table.
Freiburg has now been waiting for a win for five games, Union has been waiting for a striker goal for six games. Andrej Ilic’s debut goal this season (69′) was not recognized by referee Sören Storks due to an offside position by teammate Rani Khedira, as was a goal from Freiburg’s Matthias Ginter (17′), who hit his arm with the ball.
