Neuhaus, Thuram, Hofmann – and then Gladbach cheers

The lead for Gladbach fell after a remarkable combination, Florian Neuhaus was also decisive. His pass landed on the left at Marcus Thuram, who sped past Kristijan Jakic at high speed and then played flat into the centre. Hofmann stood there and had little trouble scoring his ninth goal of the season.

From then on, Gladbach initially had more of the game, but Borussia hardly created any chances. Eintracht from Frankfurt was more dangerous. Gladbach’s goalkeeper Jonas Omlin first wiped a deflected shot from Djibril Sow out of the corner (23rd minute).

Frankfurt has chances, but doesn’t score

And just before the break, Rafael Borré and Buta set Kolo Muani in scene. But the Frenchman failed to hit the ball properly and was denied by Omlin from close range.

A similar picture was presented to the spectators after the restart. Gladbach started with commitment, but lost control of the game after just under fifteen minutes. The equalizer for Frankfurt would not have been undeserved in this phase, it just didn’t happen. Not yet. Once, when Gladbach’s Ramy Bensebaini wanted to clear Paxten Aaronson in the 61st minute and instead sent the ball towards his own goal, centimeters were missing. In the end, the goal bar saved Gladbach’s lead.

Borussia: Omlin, Omlin again and again

Shortly thereafter, Gladbach’s rescuer was called Omlin again, this time deflecting a shot from substitute Éric Dina-Ebimbe over the goal with his fingertips. It shouldn’t be the Swiss goalkeeper’s last save.

In the 75th minute, Frankfurt’s Buta crossed flat from the right and found Kolo Muani. But Frankfurt’s top scorer didn’t hit the goal again, this time he hit the left post. From there the ball rebounded to Dina-Ebimbe, who shot from close range, only there was Omlin again. He threw up his hand, a great reflex.

Kolo Muani redeems Frankfurt

“I want to congratulate the team on a willful effort. We forced the equalizer – great respect for that,” said Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner. Eight minutes later Eintracht got the deserved equalizer. A cross from the left landed in Kolo Muani, who took the ball and then fired into the near corner.

Omlin was in the right corner, but this time he didn’t hold. The shot slipped under his right arm. “The late equalizer feels a bit disappointing, but the bottom line is that it was deserved,” said Borussia coach Daniel Farke.
