Gladbach fan favorite Patrick Herrmann leaves whereabouts open

After the disappointing season so far, Borussia Mönchengladbach is threatened with a massive upheaval in the summer. Midfielder Patrick Herrmann leaves his future with the Fohlen-Elf open.

Patrick Herrmann enjoys absolute cult status at Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 30-year-old has played in the Lower Rhine region since 2008. With 383 competitive games for the traditional club, the right winger is the most experienced player in the Bundesliga club’s current squad.

However, the contract of the fan favorite ends after the current season, a whereabouts is by no means certain. With the resignation of long-time sports director Max Eberl, the cards at Herrmann are being reshuffled again.

“It’s true that my agent and I had already talked to Max, but he’s not there anymore, so we have to see how things go now,” said the midfielder in an interview with the “RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland”: “Max has temporarily ‘ The job was taken over by Steffen Korell (head of the scouting department, editor’s note), whom I’ve known for a long time and who, like everyone else at Borussia, knows what he has in me and how much I am attached to this club.”

Herrmann does not believe in Gladbach’s collapse

In general, Gladbach has to prepare for a change in the summer. With Denis Zakaria, Borussia lost an important player to Juventus in the winter. Matthias Ginter will leave the club after this season. In addition, there has been speculation for weeks about the departure of Marcus Thuram, Alassane Pléa or Jonas Hofmann.

Herrmann does not fear a complete collapse near Gladbach at the moment. “First of all you have to see who goes in the end. And: I know this situation. When in 2012 with Dante, Marco Reus and Roman Neustädter three top performers left, it was also said that the team would not be able to cope,” recalled the veteran : “In fact, we finished eighth, sixth and third in the following seasons and made it into the Champions League for the first time.”

Herrmann continues: “I’m not saying that it will happen again this time. But: It keeps going. First of all, we all still have a lot of work ahead of us until the end of the season.” The coming weeks will show whether the right winger will still wear the diamond on his chest in the coming season.
