DFB captain Gwinn is threatened with surgery

Defender Giulia Gwinn was injured in April. After the initial all-clear, a severe setback could now follow.
DFB captain Giulia Gwinn could have an operation in the summer. The 26-year-old defender dislocated her left shoulder during the World Cup qualifier against Austria (5-1) on April 14th.
She was substituted in the 28th minute of the game. Afterwards, however, the all-clear was initially given. Gwinn was also supposed to play in the decisive phase of the season, so he also appeared in the semi-finals of the Champions League for FC Bayern and will probably also be on the pitch in the cup final against Wolfsburg on May 14th.
However, an operation could follow. Because according to “Sport Bild”, it was clear from the start that Gwinn actually had to take a break and that more intensive treatment would be necessary – including surgery.
It is therefore unclear whether Gwinn will have the procedure carried out before or after the World Cup qualifying games in June against Norway (June 5) and in Slovenia (June 9). The good thing from the Bayern player’s point of view, however, is that there is no tournament this summer and she would therefore have enough time to be fit again for the start of the season at the end of August.
But it could be an eventful summer for Gwinn not only because of surgery, but also because of her contractual situation. She is still tied to FC Bayern until 2027. Neither Gwinn nor the club actually want to enter the final year of their contract with an open future. It is quite possible that the full-back will not only decide to have an operation, but also with regard to her future.
