Vanhoutte only had to let Colombian Maria Fernanda Timms Ariza lead in the Shuyue Park in Chengdu. The German Anna-Laethisia Schimek finished third in the 500 meter long race. The Venezuelan Nelly Saidie Fernandez Osorio grabbed in the final with a fourth place just next to the medals.
For the 22-year-old Vanhoutte, the 500m was only the first race in Chengdu. Later on the road she still comes into action on the sprint over 100m. On the track she participates in the 200m, 500m and 1,000 m.
