Giro Donne sotto l’acqua: opening prologue canceled due to bad weather

In Chianciano the rain forced the race to be suspended: Letizia Paternoster was in the lead

Rain, hail, large puddles on the road. And so the inaugural stage of the Giro Donne in Chianciano (4.4 km against the clock) was suspended due to bad weather, with the consequent cancellation of the stage. Before the cancellation, about 80 of the 167 registered athletes had started. The best time up to that moment had been signed by Letizia Paternoster (Jayco-AlUla) with 5 minutes and 41”, better by only five cents than the reigning champion Annemiek Van Vleuten (Ola, Movistar). Third Marianne Vos (Ola, Jumbo-Visma) at 21 cents. At this point the first pink jersey will be awarded on Saturday in the first stage on the road: 102 kilometers from Bagno a Ripoli to Marradi. Among the favorites of the Giro also the Lidl-Trek duo made up of Elisa Longo Borghini and Gaia Realini.
