Here we are, the great wait is about to end and the Giro d’Italia 106 is ready to start with the inaugural time trial on Saturday, 19.6 km from Fossacesia Marina to Ortona on the Costa dei Trabocchi in Abruzzo: 13 km will be covered on the cycle path . Make a note of these times, above all: the first to leave will be Laurens Huys, Belgian from Intermarché, at 1.50pm; last Stefano Oldani, who runs with the Alpecin-Deceuninck, at 16.45. The four most eagerly awaited men will in fact leave enclosed in 3 minutes, one minute apart from each other, between 16.34 and 16.37. At 16.34 Remco Evenepoel, at 16.35 Primoz Roglic, at 16.36 Stefan Kung and at 16.37 our Filippo Ganna: let’s say that if the winner weren’t one of these four it would be a big surprise. If the reference is the first stage, the Giro d’Italia had never opened with such a long individual time trial: the time trials of Palermo 2020 (15.1 km) and Bari 1990 (13) follow. The Gazzetta race, after 21 stages in all, will end on Sunday 28 May in Rome.
