A 15 -year -old girl was arrested on Tuesday evening in Bergen op Zoom, after she had passed the doors as a fake agent with a woman of 89 and a couple (75 and 77 years old) in the province of Zeeland earlier that day. The girl picked up valuables from the victims. The police report this on Thursday.
On Tuesday, several reports were received at the 112 alarm room of concerned residents of the villages of Heinkenszand and ‘s-Heerenhoek in Zuid-Beveland. They said they were approached by a fake agent. Others called 112 to report that their parents had been called by a scammer.
Because of the reports, all alarm bells went to the police: a warning was sent via Burgernet and agents immediately went to Heinkenszand and ‘s-Heerenhoek to catch the scammers.
Fleeing
That did not work on time: a couple of 75 and 77 years in ‘s-Heerenhoek was robbed. With an 89-year-old woman from Heinkenszand, the chat trick failed: she managed to warn someone who came to the rescue. An attempt was made to stop the fake agent, but she managed to escape.
Eventually the girl was arrested on Tuesday evening in Bergen op Zoom. She has been stuck since then and is being interrogated. The police also investigate whether the suspect was involved in similar cases in other places in Zeeland and in other parts of the Netherlands. That research is still in full swing.
The police do not want to say where the girl comes from because she is a minor.
This is how fake agents proceed
The scammers first contact their victims by telephone and then send a so -called colleague for money. That fake agent comes by to ‘secure’ jewelry, bank cards and other valuables.
